Authors:   Andres Vega, Andrew Martin

Summary

An introduction to Cloud Native Capture the Flag (CTF) and how to participate in CTF competitions
  • CTF is a cybersecurity competition that involves solving challenges in various categories such as cryptography, web challenges, digital forensics, and networking
  • CTF challenges can be solved in multiple ways and are a great way to teach problem-solving skills in cybersecurity
  • Reconnaissance challenges require competitors to follow a trail of clues to reach a final flag and involve using search engines, the internet wayback machine, and lookups to gather information
  • The speaker will introduce different types of challenges and provide tips and tricks for completing them, followed by hands-on CTF challenges in subsequent weeks
The speaker shared a story about a CTF challenge involving a program that required an understanding of assembly language programming. This challenge may not be suitable for high school students but is more appropriate for college students with experience in computer organization and assembly language programming.
