Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Consulting developed a cloud-native mobile application called MyPompe to help Pompeii reopen its doors to tourists during the pandemic. The app provides a safe experience by guiding visitors virtually through the tour of the entire area, taking into account social distancing protocols. It also helps manage visitors and includes a dashboard to track the number of visitors and density in any one place. The app is completely based on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and uses technologies such as Kubernetes, serverless functions, and OCI's native continuous integration and continuous delivery tools.

The MyPompe app has been downloaded by more than 20,000 visitors since its launch in the Google Play Store and Apple Store in July 2020. It supplements many safety initiatives that the park instituted to allow it to reopen during COVID-19, and it is a first step towards the proposed digital ecosystem to enhance and preserve tourism and culture within the local area in Italy. The application will evolve into a loyalty program that involves other key sites as part of the archaeological park of Pompeii, such as Busco Reale and Aplontis, and the commercial partners in the area will be included too.
