Summary

Overview of Linkerd project and its features
  • Linkerd is a service mesh for Kubernetes that provides observability, reliability, and security
  • It has a growing set of features including policy, circuit breaking, and header-based routing
  • The project has a large and active community
  • Linguity is a new extension that manages or installs the SMI CRDs and other SMI functionality
  • Linkerd is working on supporting FIPS 140-2 compliance systems
  • The project has graduated from the CNCF
  • Linkerd is a popular choice for those who want to improve their observability, reliability, and security in their Kubernetes clusters
One of the top reasons people adopt Linkerd is for gRPC load balancing, which eliminates the need to modify gRPC clients to deal with request-level load balancing. This feature works with HTTP as well and provides connection-level load balancing for non-HTTP communications.

Abstract

In this talk, maintainers from the Linkerd project will present an overview of the project and an update on upcoming releases. They’ll cover what Linkerd is and how it compares to other service meshes; what the latest features and functionality are; what to expect in upcoming releases; and how you can get involved in one of the CNCF’s most talked-about projects. This talk will cover Linkerd’s recently-introduced policy, circuit breaking, and header-based routing features.Click here to view captioning/translation in the MeetingPlay platform!
