Sponsored Session: Time Series Tech Stack for the IoT Edge

Conference:  CloudOpen 2022

2022-06-21

Authors:   Zoe Steinkamp

Summary

The presentation discusses the use of edge to cloud technology in dealing with data loss and connectivity issues in IoT sensors. It also highlights the resources available for users to learn more about the time series database and community support.
  • Influx DB Cloud is where users can create their cloud account
  • Community forums and Slack are available for users to seek help and support
  • Influx DB is fully open source and has a book that delves into the theoretical components of the time series database
  • Influx DB University offers free courses to learn more about the platform
  • Edge to cloud technology is useful in dealing with data loss and connectivity issues in IoT sensors
  • Anecdotes from clients such as a farm in New York and a solar panel company in Africa illustrate the benefits of edge to cloud technology
The presentation mentions a plant monitoring system inspired by one of their clients. The system uses IoT sensors to monitor the moisture levels of a plant and sends alerts through Twilio if the plant gets too dry. The system also has a UI for users to monitor the plant's health. The anecdote highlights the practical applications of IoT sensors and edge to cloud technology in everyday life.

Abstract

No matter what type of IoT devices you have, or what your use case is for them, you’re going to end up producing a lot of time series data. What you use to handle it is going to be as important to your success as the code you write yourself. This talk will evaluate the available open source tools for the collection, activation, transmission and visualization of time series data on the IoT Edge, and demonstrate how to use them, together with InfluxDB, to solve various use cases for the Internet of Things.
