Summary

NATS and Kubernetes can be used together to create a powerful multi-cloud solution with hyper-connectivity capabilities.
  • NATS is a communication substrate technology that can be used for request-reply and Pub-Sub messaging.
  • NATS can be combined with Kubernetes to create a hyperscale solution without the need for a service mesh or complex overlay network.
  • The latest JetStream features allow for state-based services such as key/value and persistent messaging.
  • NATS can be used to create a complex topology that extends all the way to the edge, even over conference Wifi.
  • Audience participation is encouraged through a demo app and a prize giveaway.
The speaker compares using NATS to going to an all-you-can-eat buffet and only trying one type of cuisine. He encourages the audience to think about building things simply with fewer components rather than more.

Abstract

NATS is a powerful communication substrate technology that is loved by its adopters and consumers. Throughout the session, audience participation will be encouraged through connecting to a fun NATS & Kubernetes powered web application, in which audience members experience first-hand the power of hyper-connectedness. NATS is packed with hyper-connectivity capabilities and we will show the power of a real multi-cloud solution with leaf nodes and gateways to create a complex topology that extends all the way to the edge, even over conference Wifi. With the latest JetStream features, state based services such as key/value and persistent messaging are now available, reducing the component count for even the most complex applications. The combination of NATS features with Kubernetes results in hyperscale capabilities without a service mesh or complex overlay network and we hope to make it easy and fun for NATS to supercharge Kubernetes & K3s deployments and topologies.
