Cloud native application security solutions need to protect and provide visibility and enforcement from code to deployment to test all the way into the cloud runtime environment, be technostic, and application aware.
  • Cloud migration journeys are accelerating and increasing for many organizations
  • Applications are increasingly becoming containerized and the tech stack for cloud native applications is continuing to evolve
  • Organizations are faced with three primary challenges around Cloud Security: more entities to secure, entities are changing more quickly, and there is no one single Cloud pattern
  • Successful organizations focus on three fundamental areas: security as a full life cycle thing, technostic stack, and application aware
  • A good Cloud native application security solution needs to protect and provide visibility and enforcement from code to deployment to test all the way into the cloud runtime environment, be technostic, and application aware

Want to take advantage of the latest research and advances in ML? Looking to chase the next big thing? Often the most useful machine learning models are based on the pain points you see every day. Tom Vu, Senior Director and Head of Data Science and Machine Learning at Flexport, has identified and applied disruptive machine learning opportunities that resulted in over $2 billion of value during the course of his career. In this keynote, Vu shares his insights on how the limitations posed on human reasoning help identify ML opportunities, the importance of understanding processes and pain points relative to cognitive load, and what led him to decide to build an AI model to predict costs from CAD drawings. Vu’s portfolio of applied research projects and interests include routing, scheduling, assignment optimization under uncertainty, geospatial-temporal forecasting, imperfect information games, natural language processing, and computer vision. Prior to Flexport, Vu was the Head of Data Science and Analytics at WeWork, and the Chief Data Scientist at Boeing. He has over 20 years of experience implementing vision, transforming unmet business opportunities into realized software solutions.

The speaker discusses the importance of incorporating economic principles into machine learning systems to build large-scale, economically sound structures that benefit society.
  • Rey is a platform that combines functional programming and object-oriented programming to create a model of distributed asynchronous computing.
  • The speaker believes that AI and machine learning have been missing the boat by neglecting the importance of market intelligence.
  • Building multi-way markets, exploring to learn preferences, and uncertainty quantification are some of the open academic problems in this field.
  • Fairness, privacy, and social good are important considerations that have an economic side to them.
  • The speaker provides an anecdote about UnitedMasters, a company that created a two-way market for musicians to stream their music to the NBA and get paid for it.
  • The overall goal is to build large-scale systems that are healthy, happy, and economically efficient.
