Kubernetes Steering Committee AMA

The biggest challenges facing Kubernetes are sustainability, test code base, and enabling part-time contributors.

• Kubernetes faces challenges with sustainability due to a lack of reviews, approvals, and responsive approvals
• The project is skewed towards full-time contributors and needs to figure out a process to enable part-time contributors
• The test code base is a challenge for contributors, as tests they didn't write are failing

The speaker, as chair of SIG testing, expressed frustration with the test code base and the difficulty of contributing to Kubernetes. They emphasized the importance of even small contributions, such as note-taking or writing documentation.

The steering committee is tasked with decision-making and oversight with all things related to Kubernetes. This panel discussion is a chance for some navel gazing on where we are today, what got us here and where we are headed to next.
